You may have been made aware, that at the launch of the Awakened Season (October 4th) we had inadvertently made a change to the WWII Matchmaker rules that impacted the amount of Artillery vehicles allowed per Team in a match. What used to be a maximum of 3 Artillery per team, has instead been changed to 1 per Team. We started to look at what we could do to keep that change in and if there was any negative impact to it.
At first we investigated if this had any negative impact on the matchmaking and the waiting times. We saw an unusual spike in queue times and more players being matched with Bots in Random Battles (Standard Battles), especially players in Platoons, Artillery, and in high tiers during peak hours. We also saw a lot of messages from you, our Players, that have pointed this out for both occasions. Longer waiting times and more bot matches. After our investigation, we found out that this was caused as a direct results of the 1 Artillery per team limitation.
While we understand that the majority of the Community likes this change, and we want to keep this at 1 Artillery per team, we did a bunch of simulation testing that proved that this is very bad for the health of the matchmaker.
In the picture below, you can see the average wait time per tier before and after the update. You can see a significant increase after the update, meaning that the average wait time increase by a noticeable margin for the player.

As such, we are making the decision to roll back the 1 Artillery per team and restore the potential maximum of 3 Artillery per team as it was prior to this Season. Please understand this is an effort to maintain a healthy matchmaker and getting players into more matches not only quicker but against more Players instead of more Bots.
However! It is certainly worth bringing to attention the interesting observations we picked up on during the time the limit was set to 1 per Team. You the community have expressed a lot of positivity and comments about this change and in turn this became a strong discussion point in a lot of meetings recently.
We are continuing to explore the option to make 1 Artillery per team a permanent solution, as much as possible as the Matchmaker will allow it. We are currently discussing an adaptive limit that could strictly set 1 Artillery per team, but dynamically switch to 3 per Team during peak hours to help facilitate Players into battle more smoothly.
We need to revisit the design of the Matchmaker to support this adequately and mitigate the issues with long wait times or forced Bot matches. This will take some time to simulate and to test, but we are at least setting our sights on a vision on how to proceed.
I guess you can consider this as another step in the efforts of tackling the Artillery 2.0 initiative.
